In an effort to provide more individuals the opportunity to access the resources of the Fabrication Lab at the end of the semester, additional limits are observed. These limits do not guarantee everyone access, so please be conscientious of your own and others’ needs, and start making early.
Between Saturday, November 30, 2024, and Tuesday, December 10, 2024, inclusive, the following changes to our “normal” limits will be observed:
Zünd Cutter
- Daily limit of 1 hour of walk-up usage
- Daily limit of 2 hours of reserved time
- Total limit of 3 hours of reserved time between November 30th and December 10th, inclusive
- Additional time may be reserved on your behalf, at the discretion and availability of Lab Staff and Technical Assistants, by submitting a job to the FabJob app for review
- Repeat (3) failure to make use of reserved time (“no show”) will result in loss of ability to reserve time
- Failure to be present within the first 10 minutes of reserved time will forfeit the remainder of the reservation and may be considered a “no show” (see above)
- Some methods and materials, including all use of the router attachment, require time be reserved by submitting a job to the FabJob app for review, and will not be accommodated through walk-up usage
See the Zünd Policies page for more information.
Use the FabJob App to submit jobs and reserve time.
Use ZUNDTMP to upload files for walk-up use.
Laser Cutter
- Daily limit of 1 hour of walk-up usage
- Daily limit of 2 hours of reserved time
- “Lina” is designated as walk-up machine, but it also serves as a back-up device should any of the reserved laser cutters become unavailable
- Failure to be present at a reserved laser cutter within the first 10 minutes of the reserved block of time will forfeit the remainder of the reserved time
Note: Laser Cutters are now booked in 30-minute slots, rather than full-hour slots, to better accommodate user needs.
See the Laser Cutter Policies page for more information.
Reserve time on a Laser Cutter.
3D Printers (Dremel)
- May not send prints requiring more than 48 hours of build time
- May not “hold” printers by leaving build plate and/or filament sitting in the device; TAs may remove build plates and filament if the printer is not actively printing
- May not send consecutive prints on the same machine
- May not use more than one printer at a time
- May not send prints on behalf of another individual
- May not send prints under another individual’s account
- May not remove prints belonging to another individual
- Only PLA filament from one of five approved brands may be used:
- Dremel
- Hatchbox
- Overture
- PollyTerra
- Bambu
- PLA filament that contains additives must be approved for use in advance. Submit an SDS to [email protected] to start the approval process. For more information, see PLA Filament.
- Failure to observe these or other relevant policies will result in suspension of access to the Dremel 3D printers.
See the 3D Printer Policies page for more information.
CNC Router
- Must prepare MasterCAM file following online tutorial and using a provided template file
- All files must be submitted to the FabJob app for review and approval by Lab staff before machine time may be reserved; files will be reviewed in the order they are received
- Individuals are advised to allow at least 5 full days between submitting a file and reserving equipment time; pay attention to the queue via the FabJob App as machine time is often booked a full week in advance
- Users must be present for the full amount of reserved machine time
- At the discretion of Lab Staff, settings in the submitted files may be modified to optimize to allow limited machine time to be shared by more individuals
Use the FabJob App to submit jobs and reserve time.
See the CNC Router Workflow plage for more information.
