  • Billable 3D Printers will be taken offline on Thursday, May 15th.
  • The Fabrication Lab will close to use at 6 PM on Friday, May 16th.
  • Tool and material returns will be accepted through Wednesday, May 21st.
  • (See additional notes about clean-up on Teams)

We will reopen on Monday, June 2nd for approved summer requests. On Friday, August 1st we will again close.

To gain summer access, please complete a request form:

The facility will reopen for a limited number of projects this summer, provided those projects have requested access in advance. In general, only GSD faculty work (research, course preparation, and exhibitions) is given access. Exceptions are made for students who have been given extensions to complete coursework. The facilities are otherwise closed for student, professional practice, personal, and other use. Student access to satisfy pre-term workshop requirements is also supported with advanced notice and coordination by the instructor.

To gain summer access, please use the online form to provide a brief description of your project including:

  • a rough schedule,
  • the equipment or lab facilities that you plan to make use of, and
  • a list of the individuals that you expect to be working in the lab on the project.

Additionally, be advised of the following:

  • Your proposal may be reviewed in consultation with the Administrative Dean(s), Academic Dean, Department Chair, or the Dean of Students.
  • All users of the Lab must have sufficient levels of training and affiliation with the GSD as a student, faculty member, or research staff. It is the responsibility of the faculty member to employ individuals qualified to work with the required equipment; staffing for equipment operation and monitoring will not be provided.
  • Hours of access are generally limited to weekdays, 10AM – 6PM, and exclude holidays and days taken as staff vacation. Access outside of this time must be approved by and arranged with Fabrication Lab staff in advance.
  • To coordinate multiple projects and Early Design Education summer programming, use of some equipment may need to be scheduled and may be unavailable during the month of July.
  • Some equipment and areas of the Lab will be unavailable at times to allow preventative maintenance and changes to space and equipment. No particular areas of the Lab have planned renovations at this time. As much as possible these activities will be limited to May and August, to avoid disruption to use.
  • All projects must vacate the Fabrication Lab and all associated spaces by Friday, August 1st. This includes removing all remaining materials and cleaning any spaces occupied during this time.
  • All costs associated with the use of the Fabrication Lab must be covered by GSD funds.  A 33-digit billing code is required in advance for any 3D printing or lab store purchases.
