Hours of Access

The Lab will reopen for general use at 10 AM on Wednesday, September 2nd. Until that time, spaces and equipment will remain closed or offline with the exception of prior arrangements made with pre-term workshops.

Training

All new and returning users of the Lab need to complete online training prior to resuming access to Lab resources:

Online Training
  • New Users:
    • Please complete training prior to the start of the semester.
    • Allow about 5 hours to complete all courses.
  • Returning Users:
    • The annual Refresher course will be available on the Training Portal by Wednesday, August 26th. You will not regain access to resources until it has been completed.
    • A new version of the 3D Printing Training has been published to the Training Portal and includes updates to hardware and software made over the summer and is required of all 3D printing users.

All online training is available throughout the year and can be completed at your own pace. However, we recommend completing it as soon as possible, to avoid disruption or delayed access later.

Completions in the Training Portal are retrieved at 4 AM and 4 PM, daily. Access systems may require up to 90 minutes to reflect changes. Individuals can check the record of their Lab training and access credentials through the “User Record” screen of the FabJob App.

Updates

We’ve made a few changes this summer, which are discussed in more detail in the Refresher training, the most notable one being updates to the self-serve 3D printers on the 3rd floor of Gund Studio, South.

The North elevator in Gund Hall is expected to be unavailable for most of the Fall 2026 semester. This is the only elevator accessible to the GSD community that allows individuals to move materials between the Fabrication Lab and the rest of the GSD campus, including the studio and review spaces in Gund Hall. Individuals are strongly encouraged to plan on course deliverables being of a size and material character than can easily (and safely) be carried by hand up and down stairs. Contact Facilities and Operations with questions or concerns related to this project and its impact.
