Alongside our role in supporting learning through the use of tools and fabrication processes, Lab Staff is also responsible for maintaining a culture of health and safety related to making and material use at the GSD. As a part of this effort, we engage with others at the GSD, at Harvard University, and within a larger community of practice.
GSD Participation
- Safe Technologies, Environments, and Practices (S.T.E.P.) Task Force. A group of students, staff, and faculty engaged in identifying and improving issues related to health, safety, and environmental impact at the GSD, particularly related to activities that engage with physical materials.
- GSD Green Team
- Regular meetings with Facilities staff responsible for Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance across the GSD campus
Harvard University Participation

- Regular meetings with Environmental Health and Safety staff
Community of Practice
- Student Shop Managers Consortium, a community of practice that includes people employed spaces of making, both within academic institutions and community maker spaces, primarily in North America.
