Aerosolized Adhesive Spray Coatings

Instruction

  1. Preparation:
    • Safety first, follow the manufacturer’s instructions and wear the required PPE
    • Set up in a spray booth
    • Ensure surface protection, and cover surrounding areas
  2. Application:
    • Always spray away from yourself and towards the air exhaust
    • Alert others in the immediate vicinity when using this product
    • Shake the can for 1-2 minutes
    • Hold the can 6 – 8 inches from the surface
    • Spray an even coat onto both surfaces to be bonded
    • Allow the adhesive to become tacky (takes 30 seconds to 1 minute)
  3. Bonding:
    • Join surfaces and press, starting from one edge and working to the other to avoid air bubbles
    • Firmly press and apply pressure. You may also use a roller
  4. Drying:
    • Allow adhesive to set for at least 1 – 2 hours for light handling
    • Full bond strength is typically achieved in 24 hours
  5. Finishing:
    • You must leave your project in the spray booth until it is completely dry
    • You must fill out and display a “storage form” for your project while drying in the spray booth
    • Clean up work area

Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Eye Protection: wear a Chemical Goggles
  • Respiratory Protection: dust masks are recommended when spraying material
  • Hand Protection: Nitrile Gloves must be used at all times to avoid skin exposure
  • Body Coverings: None required

Engineering Controls

  • Must be used in a spray booth if used inside the GSD building
  • Must be used near an eyewash station

Emergency Response

  • Eye exposure: Wash thoroughly in the eyewash station for at least 15 minutes
  • Skin exposure: Wash all affected areas thoroughly with soap and water
  • Ingestion / Inhalation: Seek immediate medical attention. Many aerosolized adhesives present a specific risk of asphyxiation if ingested

Storage

  • Aerosol cans must be stored in closed metal enclosures. There are supplied yellow flammable cabinets near each GSD spray booth
  • Stored material must remain cool. Elevated heat (above 120F/ 49C) can cause explosion

Disposal

  • Disposal bins for aerosol cans are located near every GSD spray booth
  • Never puncture the can, even when empty

Other Notes

  • Do not eat, drink, or smoke when using this product. Wash hands thoroughly after use
  • Never use near an open flame or possible ignition source
  • Always consult the SDS for the complete manufacturer’s recommendations before use
