How To

Instruction

  1. What it does best:
    • Makes simple and clean 90° crosscuts in material
  2. Allowed materials:
    • Wood, plywood, MDF, Plexiglass, foam
    • inquire about other materials
  3. Basic use:
    • Set the fence/accessories to the correct distances to make your cuts. Verify that your hands will be a safe distance away from the blade while in use before powering on the saw
    • Set the blade height to just cut through your material
    • Power on the saw and carefully make your cuts
  4. Safety reminders:
    • Always make sure nothing is in contact with the blade before powering on the saw.
    • Never make freehand cuts on the Glider saw.
    • Never cut warped or twisted wood on the Glider saw without supervisor approval.
    • Always keep your hands a safe distance away from the blade. Your fingers should never be within 3” of the moving blade.
    • Do not over tension the locking knob on the small fence block.
    • Make sure all accessories are firmly locked in place before making cuts with the Glider saw.
    • If the Glider saw makes any strange noises or vibrations alert a TA or supervisor immediately.
    • If small parts collect next to the blade while cutting use a sacrificial piece of wood to move them out of the way or turn off the saw, wait for the blade to come toa complete stop, and move them with your hand.
  5. Finishing:
    • Turn off the saw after use and wait for the blade to stop completely before removing material
    • Clean work area and machine
    • Reset any jigs/accessories that you used

  • Eye Protection: Safety glasses
  • Ear Protection: None required
  • Respiratory Protection: None required
  • Body Coverings: None required, and gloves are never allowed when using power tools

Engineering Controls

  • Clamps and accessories to hold small pieces safely while being cut
  • Blade guard
  • Proper lighting for clear visibility of the work area
