Instruction

  1. Preparation:
    • Sand the wood with progressively finer grits of sandpaper, using adequate dust collection.
    • Ensure the wood surface is clean, dry, and free of dust.
  2. Application:
    • Put on all required PPE.
    • Stir the product thoroughly.
    • Fold a clean, lint-free cloth to form a pad; saturate the pad with oil. (You may also elect to apply some products with a brush, but take care to prevent excessive application and pooling.)
    • Using a circular motion, rub the oil into the wood surface evenly.
    • Repeat until the entire surface is fully coated and the oil has been absorbed into the wood.
    • Follow the application of oil by rubbing the surface of the wood with a dry lint-free cloth, to absorb any residual finish.
  3. Drying:
    • Allow the finish to dry completely (at least 12 hours, up to 24 – 48 hours) depending on the product and environmental conditions.
    • For deeper finish, apply additional coats.
    • If desired, sand lightly between coats with fine-grit sandpaper and adequate dust collection.
    • Repeat as needed.
  4. Finishing:
    • Clean-up work area by disposing of contaminated materials appropriately.
    • Properly store unused products.
    • Wash hands.

  • Eye Protection: Safety glasses

Engineering Controls

  • Use in a well-ventilated space, such as a spray booth.

Emergency Response

  • Skin Contact: Wash with soap and water. Seek medical attention if irritation occurs
  • Eye Contact: Flush eyes with water for at least 15 minutes, seek immediate medical attention
  • Inhalation: Move to fresh air, seek medical attention if breathing difficulties occur
  • Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting, rinse mouth, and seek immediate medical attention.

Storage

  • Store oil finishes in their original containers, tightly sealed.
  • Store in designated yellow flammables cabinets.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

Disposal

  • Do not pour oil finishes down the drain, onto the ground, or allow to enter the trash as a free-flowing liquid.
  • Rags, brushes, or other materials that have become saturated with oil or the solvents in other finishes should be discarded in the Oily Rag Can for disposal as hazardous waste.
  • Any materials that are fully dried can be disposed of as solid waste in the trash. Consult Lab Staff to determine if the item passes the “one drip” test required to do so.

Other Notes

  • Do not eat, drink, smoke, or vape when using this product. Wash thoroughly before eating or drinking.
  • Never use near an open flame or possible ignition source. Products of this type are often flammable.
  • Consult the SDS and the manufacturer’s instructions of all products before use.
  • Some products of this type generate heat as they cure. As a result, some materials saturated with these products, such as rags used to apply the product, may spontaneously combust. Take care to appropriately dispose of these materials to mitigate risk of fire.
