Polyurethane Glues

Instruction

  1. Preparation
    • Safety first, follow the manufacture’s instructions, and wear the required PPE
    • Set up in a well-ventilated area (the trays are not a well-ventilated area)
    • Ensure surfaces to be bonded are clean, dry, and free of dust or oil
  2. Dampen the Surface:
    • Lightly dampen both the surfaces with a wet cloth or spray of water
    • Polyurethane glue requires moisture to cure properly
  3. Application:
    • Apply an even layer of glue to both surfaces to better ensure no gaps are created
    • Polyurethane glue expands as it cures
  4. Bonding:
    • Press the surfaces together firmly
    • Clamp the piece for 1-2 hours
    • Allow the glue to fully cure for 24 hours before cutting or routing
  5. Clean-up:
    • Wipe off any excess glue immediately with a damp cloth, before curing
    • Clean up work area
    • Display a completed “Hazardous Materials Storage Form” at areas where the project will be stored.

Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Eye Protection: Wear safety Glasses
  • Hand Protection: wear Nitrile Gloves
  • Body Coverings: Suitable coverage to limit any skin exposure

Engineering Controls

  • Must be used in a well-ventilated area with proper process controls to limit accidental exposure and spillage onto the surrounding areas
  • Must be labeled clearly while the adhesive cures
  • Eyewash stations and Chemical showers must be available in the vicinity when using this product

Emergency Response

  • Eye Exposure: Wash thoroughly in an eyewash station for at least 15 minutes
  • Skin Exposure: Wash all affected areas thoroughly with soap and water
  • Ingestion / Inhalation: Seek immediate medical attention

Storage

  • This material is reactive with amines, alcohols, and water. It must be stored in a cool and dry space so that it cannot come in contact with quantities of these materials. Extreme exposure can create a reaction hot enough to rupture its container
  • Stored materials must remain cool. Do not store in direct sunlight

Disposal

  • Seal the container before discarding it
  • Do not pour the uncured adhesive down the drain nor allow it to enter the sewer line

Other Notes

  • Do not eat, drink, or smoke when using this product. Wash hands thoroughly after use
  • Persons with a history of skin sensitization, asthma, or respiratory disease should not use this product
  • Be careful not to breathe the dust from sanding the cured adhesive
  • Do not attempt to sand the uncured adhesive
  • Never use near an open flame or possible ignition source. The smoke from burning this product is extremely toxic and irritating
  • Always consult the SDS form for the complete manufacturer’s recommendations before use
  • You must fill out and display a storage form if you leave your project to dry where another person may encounter it
