Solvent Cement

Instruction

  1. Preparation:
    • Safety first, follow manufacturer’s instructions, and wear required PPE
    • Set up in a well-ventilated area (a spray booth)
    • Ensure surface protection, and cover surrounding areas
    • Clean the surface area you plan to bond
  2. Application:
    • Apply a small amount of solvent cement to one surface using the applicator
    • Quickly press the two surfaces together and hold for a few seconds
  3. Curing:
    • Let the bond fully cure (up to 24 hours) for maximum strength

Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Eye Protection: Chemical Splash Goggles or Face Shield
  • Skin Protection: Nitrile Gloves

Engineering Controls

  • Use in a well-ventilated area (spray booth)
  • Use in area where a spill containment kit is nearby (Project Room, Gund L31)

Emergency Response

  • Skin Contact: Wash with soap and water. Seek medical attention if irritation persists
  • Eye Contact: Flush with water for 15 minutes. Seek immediate medical attention
  • Inhalation: Move to fresh air, and seek medical attention if symptoms occur
  • Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting, rinse mouth, seek immediate medical attention

Storage

  • Store in a cool, dry place
  • Keep the container tightly closed
  • Store away from heat, sparks, and open flame, in a yellow Flammables Cabinet

Disposal

  • Allow any unused cement to harden before disposal
  • Dispose of hardened cement in the landfill waste bin
  • For large quantities, consult Lab staff to determine local hazardous waste disposal requirements
